Meet Michelle. A wife and mother of three children ages 7, 12 and 13. Michelle found her passion while working as a nurse aid for Jubilee Academies, a public charter school located on the southeast side of San Antonio. After enrolling in the St. Philip’s College Biology (pre-nursing) Program, she was determined to work towards becoming a school nurse.

“I truly believe that children are our future. While working as a school nurse, I hope to mentor children and teach them the importance of giving back to our local community while encouraging them to make a change in the world,” she said.

As an honor student, Michelle participated in the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and served on the All-Texas Academic Team. She also participated in Jessica's Project and served as a member of the Garden Club. Most recently, she received the Outstanding Student Award for Philosophy in recognition of her dedication and involvement in the St. Philip’s College Philosophy Club.

“Being involved on campus brought much appreciation to my academic journey. I wanted to experience other aspects of the campus while developing my social network,” said Michelle. “It also served as a stress-reliever from schoolwork and allowed me to connect with students that later encouraged me during challenging moments.”

Her involvement on campus and academic achievements led to her receiving the St. Philip's College Presidential Scholarship, League of United American Citizens (LULAC) Scholarship, Student Engagement Grant (SEG) Scholarship and Texas Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (T-STEM) Challenge Scholarship.

“I am very grateful to SPC, my experiences at the college have allowed me to grow into a person that I am proud to be,” she said.

Michelle will be graduating with an Associate of Science in Biology and has plans to begin working towards a bachelor of science degree next fall.
